why do these people feel the need to have a gazillion children?

Oh brother!!! It's thier lives & I guess go for it as long as they can afford it. None of that poaching off the system & free loading because they can,t afford that many kids. Personally I think they are nuts. No compassion for them at all. And you are right ....God not causing this at all. It ain,t old testament days anymore. Anyway whatever floats your boat as long as I don,t have to pay for it.

I don't understand why you're so angered tanyalk...here's a God-loving family that has had 17 children already (with another on the way) and has never asked for a dime of welfare or government assistance. The kids are all extremely polite, are very intelligent, well mannered, respectful of their brothers and sisters, the community, and their parents.

We are ready to bend over backwards to help these welfare babies by crack-heads moms that can't pick their "baby daddies" in a line up, talking about how cruel life is to them and here we have a respectable family that is bringing their children up to be happy, self sufficient, God loving, respectful, and you want to condemn them.

These parents ought to be facing charges - the world is already overpopulated. It is grossly irresponsible and shows flat-out disregard for our already taxed planet. So what if they can afford it? The world cannot.

They might be polite and well mannered but do you realize the number of children's lives they could have seriously improved if they were willing to adopt instead of reproduce at an astounding rate? I don't understand why she would want to be looked at like a brood mare. It might not be what she and her family thinks but its what the majority of the world thinks.

What the hell happened to personal choice? Our perfect white-washed american culture only allows for 2.5 children so these crazy breeders can just f off? I think they should rock on and not worry about what the dumbed down homogenized masses of america thinks of them. If you learn about over population among tribes our american tribe is becoming extinct compared to others so really they are doing you a favor. Nice post tanyalk but you're a real loser for saying this is abuse. LOL shame on the today show? no shame on you for the attention YOU are giving this. haha

This is the epitome of stupid. They think having child after child is a good thing? What's going to happen to those children if one of the parent's dies? They are taking away their childhood and a chance for a true parent child relationship. How selfish. How cruel. They just end up raising themselves. I bet there are going to be some serious psychological and emotional issues in the not too distant future with those kids. Thats' the trouble with organized religion. God my give you a sex organ, but God also gives you common sense to imagine how much time and effort it takes to raise ONE child to balanced maturity.  Don't blame your sex life on religion, these people are wako!

I said this earlier that the older children are just nannies and housekeepers so Mom and Dad can keep popping out more kids for their "other kids" to raise. That's no childhood for ANY of them. Do these "kids" have time for a social life with friends and have free time from being babystters and maids? Does'nt sound like it and this is just SELFISH. There is something called MODERATION and it sure isn't being practiced here!!! These people belong to a CULT, not a religion.

I've seen their show on TLC and there are a few things about them I really don't agree with.

First, I understand they want to shelter and protect their children and that is why they homeschool. What makes me curious is what kind of an education are they getting.  3/4th of them are school age and yet the older children are teaching the younger children.  When are the older children being taught, and are they really receiving the same education as they would in a school??

Secondly, the episode where josh and anna got engaged really bothered me.  I know they both are uber religous but to act like "courtship" is the only and right way to pick a mate is a little pretentioius.  They talked about how the mom had baggage because of past relationships and they didnt wan their kids to go through that.  Its part of life.  You cant protect people from everything.  Who hasnt had their heart broken and then grown and moved on? I dont think i could marry a man i've barely spent any time with and had never even kissed.  How lame did it look when he proposed to her and then gave her a half hug? And then to make sure they dont give in and kiss they have to have chaperones with them anytime they go anywhere. 

Its their life and it works for them, but its not one i would want.
